VIVE LA VPLEX REVOLUTION

I and some of my colleagues have been working on a new customer facing VPLEX presentation and in it we have used words like ‘Evolution’. For example, VPLEX is an evolution of traditional active-passive datacentres to active-active distributed datacentres. But the more I have thought about this, the more I have realised that this is not evolutionary at all. VPLEX is a fundamental revolution in the way that organisations can provide application and storage availability in a multi-site environment.

The word Evolution is synonymous with gradual and continuous development where as Revolution implies changes that are more sudden. The day that VPLEX came to market, EMC enabled an immediate change in the way that organizations could enable application and storage availability.

VPLEX takes technologies that were built assuming a single storage instance and enables them to function across arrays and across distance. This simple fact vastly simplifies the technology and processes involved in enabling storage, datacentre and application high availability.
